Most years I get sucked in to nurseries & garden centers by the scents & the colors & come away with too many seed packets that will never be planted & trays of 4-inch pots full of cute, tiny plants that usually die before they´re set in the ground. I´ve even brought home that miracle weed-blocker stuff that´s guaranteed to keep those buggers from popping outta the ground for the full season. Damn if it´s not still in the bag... I most certainly lack the Cisco gene. Ooh! La! La!
But. I had one successful flower year. One summer full of lush, colorful, bountiful blooms that overflowed from rustic cedar containers set up on my deck rails. Even the neighbors admired them! I. Want. That. Again. My planting beds may contain only shrubs, ground cover, weeds & trees. My lawn may be shaggy. But I AM going to repeat that one long-ago, fondly-remembered, sweet-smelling, lushly-blooming, container-ific, deck-lounging, proud-of-myself summer!
I have a mismatched collection of pots & planters & urns that I´ve accumulated from yard sales, thrift shops, mom´s shed, end-of-season sales, roadside finds, & gifts. No style or color unity at all. I will not buy more. Junk Smart, afterall.
Soooo, i figure paint will become my unifying theme. Not yet sure if it will be one color or a combo. That inspiration will surely hit me in the paint aisle.
I´ll have to round ´em up. Many still sport old, dead brownery, So there´ll be an offering to the compost gods. Then a good scrubbing, a bit of scuffing up of the finish with sandpaper. Painterly skills. Et voila! A cohesive collection brought about by one unifying quality. Color. Hope springs eternal.
Stay tuned, Junkers.
